  9.      zforce - force a '.gz' extension on all gzip files

  11. SYNOPSIS
  12.      zforce [ name ...  ]
  13.  
  14. DESCRIPTION
  15.      _z_f_o_r_c_e forces a .gz extension on all _g_z_i_p files so that _g_z_i_p
  16.      will  not compress them twice.  This can be useful for files
  17.      with names truncated after a file transfer.  On systems with
  18.      a  14  char  limitation  on file names, the original name is
  19.      truncated to make room for  the  .gz  suffix.  For  example,
  20.      12345678901234  is  renamed  to  12345678901.gz. A file name
  21.      such as foo.tgz is left intact.
